Belize
Dive the Blue Hole, explore rich rainforests and discover ancient Mayan templesBelize is located in Central America, bordered by Mexico to the north, and Guatemala to the south and west. The entire eastern side of Belize faces the Caribbean Sea and is fringed by the third largest barrier reef in the world, stretching for more than 185 miles. This is the largest barrier reef in the western hemisphere and is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Beyond the Belize Barrier Reef are over 100 tropical islands – known as ‘cayes’ – and three coral atolls; Turneffe Atoll, Lighthouse Reef and Glovers Reef. The diving throughout these atolls is fantastic, with healthy reefs with abundant marine life. The Belize waters include seven marine reserves as well as famous dive sites such as The Blue Hole and Elbow.
How to get there
There are a few international airlines servicing Belize from the UK, with one of the best options being with American Airlines via Miami. Usually, you will need to take one night’s accommodation in Miami on the way out. The flight to Belize next morning takes only a couple of hours, which means you will arrive into Belize fresh and ready for your transfer to your chosen hotel or liveaboard. Homeward flights from Belize connect well through either Miami or Dallas, requiring no overnight accommodation in the USA on the way home.
Stay a bit a longer
For those interested in top-side wildlife and culture, mainland Belize is a wonderful place to explore, with exotic rainforests and over 400 ancient Mayan temples. There are archeological sites, National Parks, botanical gardens and butterfly farms and activities can include cave-tubing, hiking, zip lines and hiking.
Belize is home to some incredible wildlife, including native Black Howler Monkeys, Tapirs and Jaguars. For bird enthusiasts there are over 300 different species to spot, including Toucans, Scarlet Macaws, various vultures and birds of prey, plus dozens of species of hummingbirds. Sea birds include Pelicans, Frigate Birds and Red Footed Boobies.
We can put together tailor-made tours throughout mainland Belize depending on your particular interests.
