Tufi Resort

Papua New Guinea

Beautifully perched above the fjords in Oro Province, Tufi Resort enjoys spectacular 180 degree panoramic views of the sea, mountains and fjords. There are no other dive resorts here and very few tourists, meaning that you have this area of incredible nature mainly to yourself and the locals.

With just 26 rooms, the resort enjoys a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. All meals are served when the bell rings and everyone eats at the same time, creating a warm and inclusive environment.

The diving here is outstanding with opportunities to dive in the outer reefs, fjords and harbour. If you are looking to explore then there are plenty of opportunities to visit local villages, kayak down the fjords, spot hornbills and birds of paradise or just relax and take in the beauty and tranquillity of the area.

Extend your stay
Papua New Guinea is an excellent destination for a twin or triple centre holiday. It’s recommended to come for a minimum of 2 weeks, but ideally between 2 and 3. Being an incredibly vast and remote country, PNG has a range of places to visit if you have time. Flights operate regularly from Port Morseby, so if you are looking for a varied itinerary then please get in touch. Chris was fortunate enough to visit PNG as a guest of the tourist board and would happily speak to you about your planning.

Diving

Go diving
Diving in Tufi is a real treat. The outer reefs have healthy reef systems, plenty of sharks and fish as well as wrecks and good visibility. If you can’t make it to the outer reefs then there is diving in the fjords with the focus on corals, fish life and macro. The dive centre is in the harbour at the bottom of the hill (2 mins drive) and there is also diving here, so a perfect place to get wet and have your first dive of the stay.

The nearest site is 15 mins away by boat and there are over 30 major dive sites in the nearby waters of the Solomon Sea. This region still has unchartered dive sites and very few divers, so you get the feeling of being adventurers!

The resort has a dive shop with 4 customised dive boats, 7 dive staff and rental equipment. Being PADI certified they also have courses that can be taken during your stay. The water temperature is a very comfortable 26 – 30 degrees year round. Expect to see pelagic schools of tuna, Spanish mackerel, barracuda, reef sharks, turtles, corals, hammerheads and maybe even the rare white hammerhead!
