Turks & CaicosDive the third largest barrier reef in the world
Just south of the Bahamas, and technically in the North Atlantic rather than the Caribbean, Turks and Caicos is made up of 40 idyllic islands and cays, only nine of which are inhabited; Providenciales, Grand Turk, North Caicos, Middle Caicos, South Caicos, Salt Cay, Parrot Cay, Pine Cay, and Ambergris Cay.
The gateway to Turks and Caicos is the island of Providenciales, known as Provo, which is home to the expansive Grace Bay Beach, often named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The Islands are a superb complex of natural coral reefs, tidal flats, mangroves and marshlands, which provide a haven for wildlife including flamingos, endangered Rock Iguanas, the curly-tail lizard, giant blue land crabs and the Buffy Flower bat.
With the third largest coral reef system in the world, Turks and Caicos has a thriving underwater ecosystem and offers some of the best wall diving in the Caribbean, together with pristine reefs, historic shipwrecks and incredible shark dives, where you have the chance to see nurse sharks, hammerheads, Caribbean reef sharks, lemon sharks and occasionally tiger sharks. In addition, the deep passage between the islands is a water highway for migrating fish, rays, turtles, dolphins and even humpback whales, which can be seen from January through March.
How to get there
British Airways offer flights from London Heathrow to Turks and Caicos twice a week, on Sundays and Thursdays with a touch-down in Nassau. Flight time is approximately 12 hours.
