Veligandu Island Resort & Spa is a wonderfully remote resort, perfect for a romantic tropical hideaway and close to some of the most amazing diving that the Maldives has to offer.
There is a stylish yet relaxed feel about the resort. The public areas are light and airy with sandy floors while all of the villas are tastefully decorated and facing the crystal clear waters of the lagoon. The superb white sandy beach surrounds the resort and extends into a magnificent stretch to the south of the island where there is plenty of beach to enjoy under the cover of of thatched umbrellas. The resort is well known for the quality of food as well the superb service on offer. Many of the staff have been here for years and it shows with their knowledge and attention to detail.
Along the beach there are many snorkelling entry points to explore the beautiful house reef. The 5 star PADI dive centre runs a number of daily trips to nearby dive sites with the highlight being the Hammerhead Point at Rasdhoo.

Getting to the Maldives is pretty straightforward with many quality carriers stopping once en-route to Male. The most popular airlines tend to be Emirates, Qatar and Etihad who each have a short transit and arrive into your destination at a sensible hour. There are direct flights with British Airways from November to March from Gatwick, but only 3 days per week. The flight time is around 11 hours to Male from London.
Upon arrival in Male we arrange for you to be met by our ground representatives and shown to your seaplane transfer. The journey time is approx 20 minutes. We also liaise with the resort to arrange your seaplane transfer back to Male to tie in with your international flight or onward connection.

There are 91 villas with 4 different types of accommodation. All of the accommodation types feature; tropical decor, a king size bed, wood or tile floors, private porch with furniture, air-conditioning, overhead ceiling fan, sitting area, stocked Mini Bar, tea/coffee facilities, espresso machine, 40 inch flat screen cable tv, dvd/cd player, iPod docking station, wifi, personal safe, partially open-air bathroom with rain shower, double sinks, hairdryer, bathrobes and complimentary use of chaise lounges at the beach along with pool and beach towels.
The 54 Jacuzzi Water Villas are beautifully positioned around the top half of the island. Each villa has it’s own jetty, private walled in area with jacuzzi, a private sundeck with stairs into the lagoon, tropical plants, shaded area and amazing sea views!
The 10 Water Villas are located to the north of the island and are smaller than the Jacuzzi Water Villas. Most of the facilities are the same except the bathroom is indoors and there is a whirlpool bath instead of a jacuzzi.
The 16 Jacuzzi Beach Villas are located on the north-east side of the island and have the same facilities as the Jacuzzi Water Villas without the stairs into the lagoon!
The 11 Beach Villas are dotted around the east and west of the island, with lagoon views and are smaller than the Jacuzzi Beach Villas.
Enjoy your stay
There are 2 different dining options at Veligandu; Dhonveli is the main restaurant which serves buffet style, international cuisine at meal times and has 3 seperate dining areas, as well as outdoor seating. Madivaru is the a la carte restaurant, serving fresh seafood and other delicacies. For the romantics amongst you there is the option to fine dine under the stars on the beach as well as room service in all villas.
There are 2 bars on the island, the Athiri bar on the northern tip of the island and the Thundi bar to the south. A beautiful infinity pool, located next to the Thundi bar, overlooks the Indian Ocean and is a great place to relax and watch the sun go down.
The Duniye Spa is located on the eastern side of the island between Dhonveli restaurant and the Fitness Centre. Situated over the water, the Duniye Spa is the perfect place to relax and some of the amazing treatments and therapies on offer.
As well as a fitness centre there is also a games room, internet cafe and gift shop.
The resort organises daily evening entertainment in the form of Maldivian culture, movies, diver videos, presentations, disco and live bands.
The jewel in Veligandu’s crown is Rasdhoo Atoll. Being a remote atoll means that there are very few other dive boats around and you have many of the 18 or so dive sites to yourself. Many of the sites take just 25 minutes to reach with the hammerhead shark and manta points being the most popular.
As well as the various sharks and schooling fish that you will see at Rasdhoo, there are also stunning underwater seascapes and deep reef walls to enjoy.
The diving is run by Ocean Dive Centre, who are a 5 star PADI dive centre and have all manner of courses you can take to either refresh your diving skills or take a specialist course. The dive shop also has full equipment rental, boat trips and house reef diving.
